Take a Break From the Routine With the 2007 Tartu Autumn Days


From the 15th to the 21st of October the hard working students in Tartu can give their minds a bit of a rest with the 2007 Tartu Autumn Days. Seven days of running around between different cultural, sporting and entertainment events will engulf everybody from the teeniest tiniest townsfolk to university students and full grown city dwellers.

According to the words of Kunnar Karu, the project manager of Tartu Autumn Days, the Autumn Days of this year give yet another opportunity to break free from the everyday routine for a week. "We are definately expecting everybody to come and listen to the opening concert where the sounds of the band "Jäääär" will leave a musical note resonating in your soul for the rest of the week. In the following days everyone can be a part of the frisky student spirit at concerts, performances, competitions, sporting events, lectures and other exciting happenings. The festival program has something for everybody", said Karu.

A festive kickoff will take place on Monday evening at nine at the University Main Hall. The greetings from the Tartu Town Council, the University of Tartu  and the Estonian Agricultural University are followed by a memorable and heart warming concert by the musical collective "Jäääär". Before that you can test your knowledge in Püssirohukelder at the legendary "Mälukas" tournament where teams of three will compete in a battle of wits.

On Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock, October the 16th, bands competing for the title of the Best Student Band 2007 enter into competition. While the jury consisting of Riho Sibul, Birgit Õigemeel, Andrus Rootsmäe (InBoil), Kulno Malva (Nikns Suns) and Triin Anni (organizer of the Noortebänd 2006 festival) has to decide on who is the best student band you can listen to the high spirited music of the band Ska Faktor.

A new and exciting event in the Autumn Days schedule is the lecture series "Academic Afterschool". During these three festival days people can learn more about technology, animals and movie making. On Tuesday, the 16th of October, from 18-19:30 Peeter "Tehnokratt" Marvet speaks at the TÜ Keemiaring auditorium on the subject "The Strain of the Discourse and Other Visions". On Wednesday, the 17th of October, from 18-19:30 Aleksei "Loodusesõber" Turovski lectures at the TÜ Zoological Musem on the subject of "The World of Animals in the Eyes of People Throughout the Ages" and on Thursday, the 18th of October, from 17-18:30 Mikk "Kinobuss" Rand holds a lecture at the Athena Center on the subject of "Film As a Visual Language".

The competiton of the Best Student Film puts on a more festive outfit this year and is held on the 18th of October at the Athena Center where in addition throughout the whole festival week a photo exhibiton by Ove Maidla titled "A Glimpse of the Student Life" is displayed.

You can also have fun and participate at the Bus Tour, Autumn Aerobics, the Open Stage, the Night of the Arts, Extreme Factor, the Closing Dance and just as well all the other 124 different events you can find in the Autumn Days program.

The Tartu Autumn Days Festival is a week of events organized by the Tartu Student Days Cultural and Entertainment Festival with the aim to conduct and offer the townsfolk a chance to get a part of the student spirit.

The main organizer of the festival is the University Cultural Club. The greatest friends of the Autumn Days are the Town of Tartu, A. Le Coq, Tele2, Postimees and SEB Eesti Ühispank.
